The eighth month of the old Roman Calendar welcomed our Threaders today, with fine weather gifted by the Gods themselves, who seemed to have stayed around to watch after encouraging a record turnout of 156 runners.
Seeking inspiration from Mercury, there were some swift, even winged footed threaders out today. Seeded within the throng were the MAC juniors competing in their junior grand prix event for points . Amongst the business end juniors Joseph Currie and Sam Thompson showed adult, Andy Sheldon a clean pair of heels.
Some runners including Rosie Shaw, had taken a lead from the Goddess Minerva and researched last months training plan, showing improvements - although it was a first time for THQ to witness the technique of Nordic Walking within the Thread.
Warning - gentle chiding incoming: a lack of effort in the finishing sprints has been observed (e.g. James Eaton) as if the Gorgon itself had turned a few legs to stone. Do try to muster an increase in speed for the last 50 meters or so, you’ll be surprised how strong your legs feel for the next run with improved times and calorie burns guaranteed. However, for some competitive souls quite the opposite as they literally threw themselves over the line to beat the opposition (ouch!)
Welcome to our new feature: the list of shame. Some of our regulars never forget the Thread day, their running shoes or kit. The timing bands are a different matter it seems for Hayley Gill, Mark Jackson, Tessa Brough, Viv MacDonald (double shame) and Andy Sheldon engaging the displeasure of Furor. Mars will be waiting for them next month…..
We’ve asked Cupid to shower some love on our Marshals on behalf of Threaders and Plutus ensured Threaders dug deep to raise £136.35 for the Whitworth Park itself this month - a huge thank you.
Enjoy the fruits of your hard work with a glass of wine tonight in Bacchus’s honour and we at THQ will hopefully see you all next month.
