An auspicious day today, given Her Majesty is officially 90. Thread HQ had invited her to become the oldest Threader by taking part. We had a really nice letter back from Buckingham Palace, but with it, a polite decline. She’s got rather a full day on, apparently and wouldn’t have got back to the Mall in time. The press secretary also questioned the validity of recording an accurate time for Her Majesty as they had heard one or two runners had sabotaged placings by not wearing their timing bands.……...
That small dig, aside, jolly good show today despite the rain. At the business end a great two horse race saw Scott just pip Mike but challenging each other, both produced PBs. Fiona Wass ran her first ever 5K and Hugh Sargent (just 4) sprinted into the finish to a loverly round of applause.
If you enjoyed the Thread and want to test your legs on a different course, how about Tuesday July 5th: The 39th Annual Parwich Hill Race. details here:
Some of our regular course marshals look as if they can remember raising a glass at Her Majesty’s christening but as they were missing today, we were grateful for helping hands from Thomas Pierce and William Croft.
Kate Ruffell is in the good books of Western Park Hospital's Cancer Charity for nominating them as our chosen charity raising £81.60 this month. If you care to check our charity page, you'll note with some satisfaction we have breached the £3000 mark since the inception of the Thread - a huge thank you to all our runners on behalf of all the charities that have benefitted.
Next month we will be 3 years old, so do make every effort to attend.
